July 7, 1957 – February 24, 2017
Sue Ellen (Susie) Overstreet, 59, of Vinton, Va., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 24, 2017, after a long, courageous and hard fought battle against cancer. Susie was born on July 7, 1957. Charlie Overstreet, Susie’s father; Shiloh, her beautiful black cocker spaniel; Ebony’s Hard Copy (Eb), her cherished Tennessee Walking horse; and many relatives were there to greet her. Memories of Susie’s love and care are the comfort her loved ones will cherish. Surviving are her life-long friend and companion, the one true love of her life, Sterling Carter; her mother, Marie Morris Overstreet; her sisters, Charlene Hogan and Leigh Ann Soltis (Richard); her nephews, Cole Hogan (Michelle) and Stephen Soltis (Brittany); and her niece, Ann Marie Soltis. From a young age, Susie had a love and passion for Tennessee Walking Horses. Following in the footsteps of her father, she trained, rode and cared for Tennessee Walking Horses. The horses were her and Sterling’s children. We know she is in Heaven riding El Dorado, Blue Son, CO’s Go Boy and Eb with Charlie, her father, standing outside of the ring yelling advice. Family and friends gathered at the gravesite to celebrate and remember Susie’s life at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. Visitation was held from 6 until 7 p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2017, at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.oakeys.com.
