D. R. Mozeley, Sr. “Dick” CHARLOTTE – D. R. “Dick” Mozeley, Sr., age 81, of Charlotte passed away June 10, 2014, at his residence. A service to celebrate his life will be at 12:00 noon Thursday, June 12th, at Christ United Methodist Church, Pastor Jim Humphries officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior (10:00-12:00 Noon) to the service. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Dick was born in Charlotte, November 27, 1932, son of the late James Ray and Velsie Christopher Mozeley. He was a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church, built the Educational Building of the church, member of Long Creek Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies and Oasis Temple of the Shrine, has served as Chief of the Pinoca Volunteer Fire Department and coached little league, pony league and colt league baseball. He founded D. R. Mozeley Construction Company, Inc. in 1958 and was a General Contractor. He was an avid saltwater fisherman, golfer, loved walking horses and owned five World champions and two World Grand Champion Tennessee Walking Horses. Surviving are daughters, Jennie Simmons (M. T.) of Gainesville, Ga. and Judy Brown (Derek) of Denver, NC; sons, David Mozeley, Jr. (Julian) of Denver, NC and Steve Mozeley and (fiance, Kim Thomas) of Stanley, NC; grandchildren, Amy Howard, Laura Maultsby, Emily McEwen and Megan Mozeley; great-grandchildren, Caroline Jennie Howard, Makenzie, Katelyn, Ashton and John Ashley Maultsby, II; sister, Eleanor Plummer of Charlotte. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 58 years, Phyllis Simpson Mozeley; brothers, Tom, James and Ray Mozeley. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather. Pallbearers will be Mark Mozeley, Jay Mozeley, Chris Mozeley, Link Webb, Sylvester Coleman, Ken Howard and John Maultsby, II.
