SHELBYVILLE, Tenn.
–The Board of Directors of the Tennessee Walking
Horse National Celebration announce that
Chief Executive Officer and Show Manager, Ron
Thomas, will no longer serve in that position.
After an extensive
career in the insurance business, Thomas was hired
as Executive Secretary of The Celebration
in 1984. That title was later changed to Chief
Executive Officer.
During his tenure,
The Celebration saw unparalleled growth
in entries, attendance, and corporate sponsor
support. A building program also saw the advent of
Calsonic Arena, Champions Arena, Celebration Plaza,
and a re-build of nearly half the barns at the
venue. Thomas was inducted into the TWHNC
Hall of Fame in 2004.
“Ron’s service to
The Celebration is appreciated by current
and past members of our board,” said Chairman David
L. Howard. “He helped sharpen The Celebration’s
identity and bring it into the twenty-first
century. We all wish him the very best.”
The Celebration
is the longest continually-running event in
the state of Tennessee, dating back to 1939. The 70th
Annual Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration
is scheduled for Aug. 20-30, 2008 at the
Historic Celebration Grounds in Shelbyville.
