2013 TWHBEA Executive Committee

At the meeting held Saturday, December 1, 2012, the International Board of Directors of the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ And Exhibitors’ Association (TWHBEA) elected the following people to serve on the 2013 Executive Committee:

President Tracy Boyd (TN) – Tracy is a lifelong Tennessee Walking Horse enthusiast and lifetime member of the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ And Exhibitors’ Association (TWHBEA). He has spent most of his professional career working in the industry, wearing many hats along the way. Tracy is a former horse trainer and is proud of his record of having had no HPA violations. In addition, he has spent time at two major breeding farms, most recently serving as the breeding manager for Rising Star Ranch. Perhaps his biggest industry contribution came during his seven-year tenure as TWHBEA’s executive assistant. Tracy is an AAAA- licensed judge and has officiated shows throughout the United States and Canada. He has previously served as Horse Shows Vice President at TWHBEA.

Senior Vice President Loyd Hall “Buster” Black, Jr. (GA) – A practicing attorney since 1971, Buster has operated his own law firm since 1978. He is currently practicing regionally and nationally in equine law and equine regulation. He has been active in legislative matters related to the Tennessee Walking Horse industry. He is a former director of the Georgia Walking Horse Exhibitors’ Association and he recently completed a two and a half year term as Chairman of its Coalition of State Horse Councils. He has previously served three terms as Member At Large By Laws Vice President at the Association. He is a longtime walking horse enthusiast with plans to become a mounted search and rescue volunteer.

Administrative/Fiscal/Audit Vice President Rob Cornelius (AL) – An accountant by trade, Rob brings a wealth of experience to the Executive Committee. He is a longtime walking horse enthusiast who enjoys just about every facet of the breed. He is a member of the Walking Horse Trainers’ Association and he has served the Walking Horse Association of Alabama as a Director and as President. Rob has also volunteered as a 4-H youth leader and in several other community oriented positions. He is a multiple term Administrative/Fiscal/Audit Vice President for the Association.

Breeders Vice President Mike Hicks (TN) – Mike Hicks has been actively involved in the Tennessee Walking Horse industry for the past 25 years. During this time he has owned broodmares, foals, pleasure and performance horses. Mike’s primary interest has been in breeding and raising foals. Raising his first foal in 1988 and not missing a year since, it has become a passion in his life. He has managed numerous World Champion and World Grand Champion stallions; he currently owns and operates New Horizon Stables in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He has previously served as Enforcement Vice President and Performance Horse Vice President for the Association.

Enforcement Vice President Denise Bader-Keyser (Germany) – A native of Wemding, Germany, Denise Bader-Keyser has been involved in the Tennessee Walking Horse industry for over a decade. She has owned and exhibited pleasure, performance, halter and versatility horses and she is currently an owner/operator of a multi-faceted Tennessee Walking Horse facility in Germany. An extremely active promoter of the breed in Europe, she has participated in and/or organized Equitana Germany, the German Championships, Eurocheval, Fierra Cavalli Italy, Cavaladia Poland Americana, the European Futurity & Championship and the Northern German Championship.

Equine Welfare Vice President Dr. Linda Montgomery (AL) – A practicing veterinarian for 23 years, Dr. Linda Montgomery enjoys all facets of the Tennessee Walking Horse. She is an owner, exhibitor, and breeder of flat shod, padded, halter, and versatility horses. She is a regular on the trail and in the show ring. This is her second term as a TWHBEA Director for Alabama and last year was her first time serving on the board of an industry organization. This will be her third term as TWHBEA’s Equine Welfare Vice President.

Horse Show Vice President Pat Stout (TN) – Pat has been involved in the Tennessee Walking Horse industry for several years, beginning her involvement in Washington State and later relocating to Tennessee. She has owned and exhibited horses in every division our industry has to offer. She is also an active breeder. A multiple-term director, she has previously served as Horse Shows Vice President in 1999, 2000 and 2007. She has also served on the Pleasure Horse/ Youth Horse/Youth and Owners/ Exhibitors/International committees. Other breed organizations that she has been active in include TWHBEA of Washington, Western International Walking Horse Association, Walking Horse Owners’ Association, Upper Cumberland Walking Horse Association and the Pleasure Walking Horse Association of Tennessee.

Marketing Vice President Joyce Moyer (OH) – Involved in virtually all aspects of the breed, Joyce Moyer has been a member of TWHBEA since 1988 and lifetime member of TWHBEA since 1998. She was first elected to the International Board of Directors in 1994 and is currently serving her fifth term as a representative from Ohio. She is a past Member At Large Youth Vice President and this will be her third nonconsecutive term as Marketing Vice President. Over the years, she has served on the Breeders, Youth, Pleasure, Marketing, Administrative/Fiscal/Audit, and By Laws committees. Always looking to promote her breed of choice, Joyce has represented the breed at a variety of events. Joyce has operated a major accounting service for 37 years.

Owners/Exhibitors/International Vice President Jason Bachert (MO) – A resident of Grover, Missouri, Jason is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University who holds a bachelors degree in Ag Business. He has been employed by Manna Pro Products LLC for the past 11 years and currently he currently serves as Vice President, Retail Sales. A lifetime member of TWHBEA, Jason has been involved in all facets of the breed. He and his family enjoy showing and trail riding. He has been instrumental in TWHBEA’s relationship with Manna Pro and he has never hesitated to lend a hand at TWHBEA events such as Equine Affaire and All Youth Day.

Performance Horse Vice President Christy Lantis (CA) – The daughter of a professional field trial dog trainer, Christy grew up riding and owning Tennessee Walking Horses. She began showing at the age of 13 and rode her first performance horse under the direction of Russ Thompson. In addition to riding and showing, Christy enjoys breeding Tennessee Walking Horses. She has served as Secretary/Treasurer for the West Coast Walking Horse Trainers’ Association and as a director of the Tennessee Walking Horse Foundation. Christy is a former director for the Tennessee Walking Horse Association of California and the Hesperia Christian School Board. Professionally, Christy manages the Assessment Appeals and Special Properties divisions of the San Bernardino County Assessor/Clerk/Recorder.

Pleasure Horse Vice President Rick Wies (MT) – Rick began training and showing the pleasure Walking Horse in the early 70’s mostly in open all breed shows while in his early twenties. He owned and operated a training and show barn in Fort Wayne, Indiana, while earning a mechanical engineering degree, serving in the Army Reserve as a Drill Sergeant in an infantry training unit, working full time as a tool and die designer and beginning a family. In 1984 Rick and family moved to the west shore of Flathead Lake in Montana to take on the management, training and showing duties for the Dr. Taylor ranch where a broodmare band of twenty plus was formed. In 1995 Rick purchased the Montana Ranch and reestablished Rick Wies Stables, which he operates to date. Rick has been elected to the TWHBEA International Board of Directors on five occasions and has actively served on virtually every divisional committee with over seventy appointments.

Trainers Vice President Wayne Dean (TN) – A native of Paris, Tennessee, Wayne Dean has been around Tennessee Walking Horses for so long that he no longer remembers his first ride aboard one. His uncle, Master Breeder Audie Dean, introduced him to the breed. A professional walking horse trainer for 35 years, he is committed to promoting every facet of the Tennessee Walking Horse breed. In 2008 – 2009 he served as Performance Horse Vice President and in 2006 – 2007 and 2009 – 2012 he served as Trainers Vice President. He has held a seat on the Walking Horse Trainers’ Association Board of Directors since 1998. He has judged just about every major show including the Celebration.

Member At Large ByLaws Dr. David Mullis, Jr. (GA) – A resident of Good Hope, Georgia, Dr. David Mullis, Jr. has been a member of TWHBEA since 1996. He is an owner, exhibitor and breeder of quality Tennessee Walking Horses that have found success in nearly every discipline. He is a supporter of all facets of the Tennessee Walking Horse. Dr. Mullis is the president of Mullis & Associates, Inc., a regulatory affairs and clinical studies consulting firm focusing on medical devices and biotechnology.

Member At Large Youth Caroline Hoffman (MO) – Caroline resides in Wellington, Missouri where she enjoys owning, exhibiting and training pleasure, performance and halter horses. She is a breeder of successful Tennessee Walking Horses and an avid trail rider. She is a multiple-term director for TWHBEA and she has served on the Performance Horse, Youth, Horse Show and Pleasure Horse committees. She has held youth camps and is an avid supporter of TWHBEA’s Academy Program. Caroline has served as president of the Tennessee Walking Horse Association of Missouri.

Secretary Dee Dee Miller (TN) – A lifelong Tennessee Walking Horse enthusiast, Dee Dee brings a wealth of knowledge to the Executive Committee. She is a multiple term TWHBEA director from Tennessee who served in 2008, 2009 and 2012 as Breeders Vice President for the Association. She is also a former Member At Large Youth and Senior Vice President. She has served as Secretary/Treasurer for the Tennessee Walking Horse Foundation. Dee Dee is a licensed AAA judge and is, perhaps, best known as the owner of 1998 World Grand Champion Masquerading.
